After the shooting of 20 gradeschool children in Newtown, CT, in Dec 2012, Larry was reminded of the contrast to the idyllic nature of his own school days at the Harlan School. He created a series of 20 small pantings, wishing that those kids and all others could experience that same peaceful sanctuary.

This recalls the vivid imagination of a young Larry and his uneasy apprehension of what was going to happen to him at the doctor’s office after cutting  his head open. It’s a long trip from Harlan to the nearest town.

Larry’s Dad and his brothers-in-law ca. 1985 in his Dad’s shop; Lige had polio as a teenager but that did not stop him from providing for his family by working in logging operations loading logs onto trucks and building logging roads.
