1980s and 90s
Larry and I met in Jan 1982 at the Greyhound Bus Station in Portland. OR. I had just arrived from Seattle via Japan on my trip to see the US and Larry was changing buses from LA back home to Corvallis. We chatted for 15 minutes, Larry gave me his phone number, and we each went out separate ways.
The image above is a recollection of that brief moment, that Larry assembled out paper cuts in LA a few weeks later. We had decided to continue my travels together.
Larry’s considerable artistic talent was evident in his masks, drawings and photographs. He continued working in all possible formats (drawing, water color paintings, lino cuts, mono type and photography) while we were traveling - we had our film developed on the go.
Larry worked on making sketches or taking notes whenever there was an opportunity - left: at the laundromat, right: at a hotel room.....
All our cameras were stolen from our motel room in Atlanta - this camera, above, a gift from Larry’s uncle, was all that we had for a few weeks,
