Collage is a simple art form, anyone can do it. But it can develop into a complex an interesting form of expression that can be thoughtful and idea driven.

In this class we will build collages limited to a maximum of 10×10 inch format. We will use cut paper, vintage ephemera, old photos, tissue paper, water color and drawing, homemade modeling clay stamps, old letters, and postage stamps.

You are encouraged to create a stockpile of images by carefully cutting out as many pieces as you can during the first hour, so you should expect to be using your scissors or a knife. Bring good scissors or a sharp knife.

My day starts with coffee, one cup per day then tea. Up to the studio I go with my steaming cup of black tea with lots of milk. (A habit I picked up in England.)
The important thing – and the way I start every day there – is quietly sitting on my studio steps for a while, drinking my tea and watching the birds that congregate around my studio door. Chickadees, thrushes, sparrows, and juncos are almost always there. Occasionally a grosbeak or two. Here on the mountain things move slowly. Rabbits sit quietly in the green grass near salal and salmon berry bushes, undisturbed. After my tea and thought I begin my day, poking through mental notes and tattered sketches to find my direction.

Well, we are making a more public effort to highlight what Larry has to offer in terms of service to the Seattle art community, as well as providing a blog-like venue for creative underpinnings of the artist’s way.

Soon

– we will announce what type of workshops will be hosted here at Larry’s Studio
– we will illustrate our special and unique, natural setting in the midst of untouched forests of Tiger Mountain
– we will list the types of services that Larry offers to help other artist on a one-on-one basis in the completion of their own projects
– and typically there will be glimpses at creative thought processes, snippets of ideas, either in the form of illustrations and/or text.

Both of us will contribute to the newsletter and provide updated information and share what’s brewing in the artist’s mind.
